SI Not In Love With Mets

31 Mar

It is amazing how a year can make a difference.

In 2009, Sports Illustrated picked the Mets as their favorites to win it all. Some joked that this honor may be a curse. As it turned out, the season was filled with doom and gloom as New York fell out of baseball relevancy by July.

This year, not one “expert” picked the Mets to play a game after game 162.

The Phillies to a no surprise were the heavy favorites. The Cardinals received several nods to win the pennant while the Rockies served as the surprise pick to represent the National League in the Fall Classic.

The Braves and Marlins were picked to win the Wild Card, but Philadelphia picked up the clean sweep of the NL East crown.

For the Mets, they received one honor. Johan Santana was picked by Ted Keith to win the Cy Young.
