Remember the days of Mets fans jumping ship and when Minaya and Manuel were walking the plank?

Those days were just over one week ago.

Since, the Mets have pitched and won, taking advantage of the dysfunction of their competition.

New York is now in the position to take over first place.

If the Phillies and Marlins lose and if the Mets sweep the doubleheader, New York will leapfrog from third to first.

While a lot has to happen in 24-hours, the fact that the Mets are so close to the top of the division, it captures how right things have gone since they returned home last week.

Of course the Mets can lose both, the Phillies can win and New York will be back to 2 1/2 games back.

It’s only one day in the first month of the season. Yet, it has the potential to make this home stand the one this city looks back on when New York went from last to first.

I’m not greedy. Give me a split and a decent outing from Ollie. I’m still waiting for the other shoe to drop!

We really got a break on Sunday night with the rain shortened game. Big Pelf didn’t have his stuff, but somehow managed to get the outs just when he needed them most. HOw huge is that 5th innning ending double play??

    I guess I am a little optimisitc…
