9 & 10 MEANS THE MOST

30 Apr

Sure the Mets 8 game winning streak and 10 wins in their last 11 games are impressive, but wins on Saturday and Sunday against the Phillies can make this run something truly special.

If the Mets win their 9th and 10th in a row, it will mean that they beat Roy Halladay and that the Phillies didn’t beat Johan Santana.

I have felt all along that Santana would pitch a gem Sunday as he has something to prove against Halladay and the Phillies. While this doesn’t necessarily mean a win for the Mets, as few can doubt the resilience of Jamie Moyer, but you can bet Santana has a message to send to the baseball world on a national stage.

As for Saturday, Halladay will look to rebound from his first loss of the season against an offense th

at is clicking. He will be opposed by Mike Pelfrey, the Mets starter who is off to an incredible start.

Pelfrey has pitched to an ERA over 7 in his four career starts in Philadelphia. Brining a 24 scoreless inning streak, the Phillies line-up will be the greatest test thus far for the Mets starter.

This Mets run has been enjoyable, encouraging and fun for the players and their fans. However, wins Saturday and Sunday against the Phillies with aces wild, wins 9 and 10 will mean the most for this team, building a confidence that can last the summer.
